Placerville
The ride heads west on Highway 145. It’s a mad descent to the Concrete Boob (you’ll know it when you see it on the left) then a good ride along the red cliffs, with the river on the left going the same direction.
The shoulder is tight, so be careful and mindful of traffic. Once at Placerville, stop at the park to enjoy the restroom facilities (they are done in stainless steel which is pretty slick) then at the General Store for water or what-have-you.
Heading back, leave some in the tank for Keystone Hill. Races are won and lost on this, so pace yourself, and regardless of how deep you’re digging try to keep some composure, as your efforts are on display for the passing traffic. Just try to look as dignified as you can while you climb is all I’m saying.
